Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I consider leaving a gift to Georgetown Prep through the Haas Society?

A. The Haas Society was created to inspire members of the Prep community (alumni, parents, past parents, grandparents, and friends) to help us build a lasting endowment that will allow Prep to prosper for generations to come. The Society honors Prep’s legacy by reaching beyond what we’ve been and what we are to all we can be. The dreams of the young men who walk our campus are alive with possibilities. The Haas Society helps turn dreams into reality.

Q. How does my gift and the Haas Society help Prep?

A. Prep is very reliant on tuition revenue to fund operations, too reliant. In fact, the need to increase tuition revenue every year is unsustainable. Comparable schools to Prep (The Lawrenceville School, Choate Rosemary Hall, Groton School) have endowments in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Prep’s endowment is less than $45 million. A much larger endowment will allow us to be far less reliant on tuition revenue and further allow us to enhance our curriculum, fund a wide range of student activities, and provide us with the financial resources to help families that find it challenging to afford Prep.

Q. How does a larger endowment help exactly?

A. We invest our endowment in a risk adjusted portfolio. The proceeds from that portfolio are used to enhance student life at Prep and fund financial aid for our families in need, and some are reinvested to help the endowment grow. The larger our is endowment, the more opportunities we can make available to our students, their families, and our faculty.
